sincerely_fake is a work comprised of 15 staged photographs, posted on an Instagram account of the same name, and complete with short slogans as captions for each image. It is based on the observation that our surroundings have made us form inevitable expectations. People are supposed to interact with certain objects in certain ways. Product photos are supposed to make objects look enticing. Social media is supposed to be a documentation of real-life happenings. By contradicting polished, cherry-picked expectations with images that are simultaneously alluring and alarming, sincerely_fake aims to draw attention to these subconscious preconceptions themselves.
